Henrique TMCM Baltar is an electric-electronic engineer by the Federal University of Pernambuco (2005, UFPE, Brazil), where he worked in the Non-Linear Optics Laboratory of the Department of Physics, under supervision of prof. Cid Bartolomeu de Araújo.

Henrique holds a MSc in Biomedical Engineering by the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (2008, UFRJ, Brazil). In the biomedical instrumentation laboratory, he constructed a flow cytometer, under supervision of prof. Marcio Nogueira de Souza. His masters' thesis in Portuguese is available here.

He also holds a PhD in Physics by Macquarie University (2014, Australia), under supervision of prof. Ewa Goldys. His work consisted in understanding the electric field confinement around nanoparticles and metal layers, and applying this knowledge for surface-enhanced fluorescence (SEF). Specificaly, he started his PhD performing bioassays in microspheres. Then, he moved to the study of plasmonic properties of a periodic array of nanocylinders over a mirror surface, including theory, simulations (FEM with COMSOL Multiphysics) and experiments. He was a post-doctoral fellowship in the Department of Physics of UFPE (2014-2017), where he worked with non-linear optics. He worked with z-scan, pump and probe, optical parametric amplification and solitons. He had as supervisors Prof Cid Bartolomeu de Araújo and Prof Edilson Lucena Falcão-Filho.

He also was a post-doctoral researcher in the Institute of Physics of UFRJ. He has as supervisor Prof Felipe Arruda de Araújo Pinheiro. In this new position, he temporarily collaborated with the Optoelectronics Research Centre of the University of Southampton (UK) with Dr Nikitas Papasimakis and Vassili Fedotov in the group of Nikolay Zheludev.

During 4 years he worked as an R&D engineer at the start-up Senfio, that designs wireless applications for sensing and remote detection. His main duty was developping hardware and firmware for IoT devices, besides performing radiation dose calculations and writing technical documents.

He was a temporary lecturer at the Department of Electrical Engineering of the Federal University of Pernambuco (UFPE) and a lecturer at the University Center Maurício de Nassau (UNINASSAU).

He held a professor position at the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of Ceará (IFCE), where he was also responsible for the Laboratory of Analog Electronics, was the chair of the Structuring Teaching Nucleus of Electrical Engineering, was a member of the Collegiate's Board of Trustees of the Bachelor Degree in Electrical Engineering, and was an alternante member of the Collegiate's Board of Trustees of Technology Degree in Industrial Mechatronics.

In January 2024, he became an Adjuct Professor at the Computing Systems Department of the Federal University of Paraíba (UFPB).

Other professional activities include internship in an energy company (Neoenergia, Brazil), short-time job as electronic engineer in a company that offers 3D body scanning services (mPort, Australia), 3 years as a lecturer of experimental physics (2 in the Department of Physics and Astronomy of Macquarie University, Australia, and 1 in the Department of Physics of UFPE, Brazil). Extracurricular activities include reviewer of OSA journals - such as Optics Letters, Optics Express, JOSA B, Applied Optics -, reviewer of bachelor students conference (Australia), secretary of Macquarie University OSA Student Chapter, voluntary in events organisation and elucidation of physics experiments to general public.
